Heeeere we are, born to be kings!

We're the princes of the universe... *guitar solo*

Guess what? My Highlander DVDs arrived today! All 6 seasons in one gloriously 90s package, yay. So far I have watched episode 1, The Gathering and I have a totally stupid smile on my face. That was the only one I've seen more than once because I managed to find a VHS at one point but I haven't seen it for years.

Totally random thoughts

- What on earth is Adrian Paul doing with his voice in the intro to the credit sequence at the start? He does not sound like that usually!

- I had completely forgotten they used to signal flashbacks by zooming into Duncan's eyeball. That is really quite bizarre.

- Tessa! Yay, Tessa! ♥ So very much not a damsel in distress. Oh, I loved their relationship. It seemed so real in comparison to most shows.

- Naaaaw, crying!Duncan. He's so adorable.

- I had also forgotten how ridiculously goodlooking Adrian Paul is. Even with that haircut.

- Yay, Connor. I do love Christopher Lambert's laugh, and his smile when they are bantering. Shame he makes such dreadful films these days.

I rather enjoyed the extras too. Watcher chronicles for all the characters mentioned (with spoilers for later episodes, whoops) and a bit from Mr Panzer looking back at the first episode from 6 years on.

Hee! Isn't this show fun?

(Alas, Amazon doesn't want to send me my DVDs. It's supposed to take another three weeks! *headdesk*)

Seriously fun. Even when I was rolling my eyes I was grinning. And I was mostly rolling my eyes at how poor a villain Slan Quince was - though it did make me laugh when he pulled out a pocket mirror while waiting for the climactic showdown and apparently practiced raising his eyebrow. He works hard at being this cheesy a bad guy!

Slan Quince, OMG. What were they thinking?!

It's hard to believe what developed out of these beginnings, isn't it?

The TV series was much more fun than the films! Well, I still have a soft spot for the first film and the 3rd is entertaining. 2 is so bad that it doesn't even manage to be funny, the 4th one is about 50:50 suck:bearable with an ending that still makes me furious for its character assassination and illogic, and I've heard number 5 is utterly rancid!

Whereas the TV series was almost always fun, actually did character development long term with no reset buttons or lack of consequences for their actions and is chock-full of eyecandy and interesting characters. Oh, and it did proper location work and actually filmed in Paris when they were meant to be in Paris instead of faking it because the funding was part European. It is also full of 90s cheese on occasion, but that can still be fun!

Oh I miss Highlander! I haven't seen it in ages and I loved it (and Adrian) so much! A couple of weeks ago I even watched this absolutely awful movie, I can't even really remember what it was called or anything - I think there might have been aliens? - just so I could watch AP.

I am rediscovering my love for AP. He's jsut so cute and gorgeous.

And I have watched plenty of dreadful films just because they had Christopher Lambert in them *shudders*
