Most of these recs will be slash. If you don’t know what that means, click on the link. Now that you know, if you find the concept offensive, don’t click on anything that doesn’t specifically say that it isn’t slash, OK? And if you do and you don’t like what you find, don’t say I didn’t warn you. I may or not give more specific warnings with individual stories, but there is likely to be lots of love and sex and a fair amount of violence, though I am extremely unlikely to rec anything involving the permanent death of a character or an unhappy ending.

Gen stories

Not terribly many of these to be honest.

You Only live Forever by MacGeorge - this story takes the canon meeting of Duncan and Tessa and crosses it over with James Bond. It works beautifully with all the canon details and also shows how Duncan and Tessa fall in love fabulously well. Nice art work too.

Metempsychosis by Laura Jacquez - a creepy little tale looking at the possible aftermath of a Quickening (NOT a death story btw)

On Being Given Eyes To See, No Stone Unturned, Strong Enough and the sequel Bridges and an X-Men crossover Razorbeasts, all by the wonderful MacNair. MacNair has written several amazing stories that concentrate on the strong ties between Connor and Duncan MacLeod, and Strong Enough and Bridges are just two examples. More can be found at Daire's Fanfic Refuge. No Stone Unturned is a fascinating look at Connor through Methos' eyes as Duncan tries to bring together two of the Immortals that mean the most to him, while On Being Given Eyes to See takes a look at the Watchers and the inside of Connor's head simultaneously. Razorbeasts is a very interesting little tale about two fast-healing people with very sharp blades in the same place and shows what could happen if Wolverine runs into a Highlander.

It'll Never Work by Rhiannon - Connor, Methos and Amanda all working together to right a wrong. And graverob. Be afraid! Charming and extremely satisfying.

AUs

Found and Lost, and the semi-sequel Lost, both at The Best of All Possible Worlds - Sleeps With Coyotes takes the canonical AU visited by Duncan in To Be/Not To Be and runs with it, going by the theory that that there is a MacLeod for every Methos and a Methos for every MacLeod but they may need a little outside help in getting together. Lost also takes a very interesting look at Duncan's life and loves through Methos' eyes.

The Duke's Reward by The Lady of Shalott - a fun spin on a bodice-ripping romance using Duncan and Methos in the central roles.

PWPs

Bring on the smut!

Consent of Twain, the sequel A Good Thing and Leaning With the Turns at the third Futures Without End all by Aristide - Consent of Twain and the sequel both feature a threesome with the boys an Amanda and are actually the first slash fics I can remember reading. As expected form Aristide, they are smoking hot and so is Leaning With the Turns, a great little First Time story.

Private Dancing by Maygra de Rhema - a gorgeous story about Duncan and Methos going dancing as an established couple and getting all hot under the collar.

Over the Edge by Elynross - another established relationship fic, this time Methos takes Duncan to an erotic poetry reading and Duncan finds out just how far he'll go...

Toeing the Line by Killashandra, the sequel The Gift by chelle (accessed through the author indexes at the MBB) and Amaze Me by Sleeps With Coyotes - all answers to the extremely unlikely, but highly entertaining, Virgin!Methos challenge. Hot as very hot things.

Series

Only one here, but it's a doozy and long enough to be split into two sections.

Arrivals and Interactions Arc by Rhiannon - an original character who is both original and believable, Connor, Duncan, Methos, a quick crossover with Forever Knight and a look at how to hunt and be hunted. Seven parts, wonderfully written and slash-free.

The Line War index by Rhiannon - continues on from Arrivals and Interactions, pulling in several more brilliant original characters, a tense thriller of a plot that gradually ratchets up the tension over the 10 main parts until the 10th has you on the edge of your seat, some absolutely hissable bastards of villains, sex, slash, violence, love, humour... it's got the lot and it is fabulous. Set aside a couple of months and prepare to have your socks knocked off.

non-D/M

There are some of these out there, but it is a definite minority. These are two of my favourites.

The Good Life by MacGeorge - takes a minor character and crafts a sensuous first time between him and Duncan. Lovely.

Reflections and the sequel Form and Substance, found here by Rhiannon - Duncan runs back into a character called Matthew McCormick (played by Will from Will & Grace). Flirting and law enforcement innuendo leads to more. Amusing, sweet and hot.

Standalones

By author.

Sleeps With Coyotes:
Still-Heart - a marvellous tale combining Methos' mysterious past, a First Time, ancient mythology and horror
Welcome - a very sweet little tale about Methos coming home
Ends and Means - a little look at a possible outcome of the Gathering

Aristide:
Declaration - a cute and sexy reconciliation story, where Duncan finds that making things right can be an awful lot of fun (First Time)

MacGeorge:
Social Graces - a happy Duncan, a bemused Methos and a bit with a fountain. A funny and romantic first time story

Killashandra:
Dead Weight and Live Wire - Methos and Duncan moving towards a realisation of love. Simply gorgeous.
Gift of the Raven - post TB/NTB with Amanda playing matchmaker. The boys get some things off their chests and finally move on to the smooches. Sexy and insightful.
Sanctuary - post-Endgame, Duncan needs somewhere to go and Methos provides that and more. Sad and lovely.

Elynross:
Perchance to Dream - another post-season air clear between Duncan and Methos that gives them the happy ending they deserve. I really like Elynross's Duncan here.
Hope Chest - a sweet and sombre look at moving on from old loves to find a new

Dayspring:
It's a Date - short and funny and how everyone else can see it but the ones involved
Save the Last Dance for Me - Duncan embroils Methos in his love life and finds out he wants the pretence to be real. Sweet and with interesting original characters

Viccy:
Dos Toros - when Amanda gets Methos and Duncan to compete for her by dancing, the outcome isn't quite what she was looking for... sultry and hot

Bywater:
Final Tally - after the events of Endgame, it takes Duncan a while to realise where his heart truly lies. This is what happens when he does. Calm and infinitely satisfying

Rachael Sabotini:
Masque - semi-AU where Duncan and Methos meet much earlier in the haze of one of Byron's infamous parties. Dreamy, strange and hot

Diana de Shaun:
Perseverance - Duncan is kidnapped and Methos gets medieval on their asses. One of the earliest I read and it sticks with me because of Methos' ruthlessness
