Well, that was fun.

1. Michelle Ryan is pretty good at the whole evil thing. I'm liking the idea of her being around for a bit.

2. Arthur really doesn't like the idea of not having Merlin around, does he? He objects right at the start just to Merlin going off to help Gaius. Possessive much?

3. I'm starting to find Arthur disconcertingly attractive. There's the smile, the sarcasm ("it's called a cupboard. You could use it to put things in"), the shoulders, the concern for the people in the lower town... he's way too young for me. This must be stopped.

4. The trope of Merlin not listening to Gaius' advice may eventually get a little wearing. As will Gwen constantly qualifying every thing she says.

5. The Gwen/Morgana vibes are off to as good a start as Merlin/Arthur. Flowers and a "you make me happy"? Entire fandoms have spawned on less.

6. Another reason that Arthur gets points this week is his defence of Gwen to his father. He isn't irrational about magic and does get that it doesn't have to be evil. I like his insistence on justice and that he has obviously thought about how he intends to rule one day. I believe the term is 'unexpected depths'. And I like it. (Also his little head drop when Uther gives the sentence kind of supports my idea of him not liking executions much so I am happy.)

7. It strikes me that if Merlin really wanted to prove he was a sorcerer, all he'd need to do is levitate something in the hall. Maybe he was too distracted by Arthur putting his arm around him to think of it?

8. Speaking of, Arthur protecting Merlin has no bad side. I love how he took his lead from Gaius' comment and ran with it - he can think on his feet. And he still really does not like any suggestion of Merlin being taken away from him. Also: arm round the shoulder and an affectionate head push - see above comment re spawning of fandoms on way, way less. Never mind the way Arthur checked Merlin out while he said Merlin was a wonder!

9. Arthur said maybe he hadn't found the right person to love yet. He played the pronoun game! And then he looked momentarily upset about Merlin being upset about Gwen. The slash, it is overwhelming.

10. I spent ages wondering where I'd heard of an afanc before and why I actually knew how to spell it and then I remembered - there is an afanc in Silver on the Tree, the last book of the Dark is Rising sequence by Susan Cooper. And that one is also connected to Arthur and Merlin, though it is described as a serpent, a creature of the dark, made out of the stuff of nightmare and apparently Arthur cast it out from Llyn Barfog. Nice link.

11. Love Merlin's little comment about being the brighter side of the coin. And I'm thinking that in a couple of weeks the matchmaking dragon is going to get fed up of subtle and cryptic and start telling Merlin the problem of the week can be solved by him taking Arthur to nice candlelit dinner with soft music and a big bed near by, wink wink. And Merlin still won't get it, causing the dragon to bang his head off the cavern ceiling a lot and go "just shag already!" (Which would be really funny in John Hurt's voice.)

12. Is next week's really going to be an entire episode of Arthur fighting desperately to save Merlin's life? Sweet. They are spoiling us, they really are.

*flails at you* The slash! The slash is so blatant!

I loved Arthur teasing Merlin about the cupboard thing, and the arm-around-the-shoulder thing! And, and pretty much every moment Arthur was on the screen.

Also, Gwen is Guinevere - am I the only person who didn't know this?

I know! The only way they could get more blatant without going all Torchwood on us is to start putting Marlin and Arthur in matching pink outfits with rainbows on!

And, and pretty much every moment Arthur was on the screen.

Yis. God damn he's pretty. See, last week I was all appreciating Merlin's eyes and grin and general endearing shinyness, this week it seems to be all Arthur... I am developing a serious obsession with these guys here.

Gwen is Guinevere - am I the only person who didn't know this?

Um, yes? But then you didn't have sound for the first episode and that's probably why you missed it. I think they've only called her Gwen since.

I think I read somewhere they are planning on 5 series (yay) so I guess that means lots of changing relationship shenanigans. Also, did you hear Santiago whatsisname who was Isaac Mendes in Heroes is going to be Lancelot? The pretty just keeps on coming!

Arthur has this soft little grin thing going on sometimes and every time he flashes it my brain-voice goes nrrgh!

Oooh I was wondering if/when we'd see Lancelot. Hehe, as long as no one splits up Merlin and Arthur, I don't really mind where they take the rest of the relationships.

I can just imagine
'Merlin, the problem of the week can be solved by taking Arthur to nice candlelit dinner with soft music and a big bed near by'

...

I really want that as an icon now.

Merlin's turned me into an icon whore.

The Great Slash Dragon is awesome. And I am also looking forward to this whole damsel-in-distress quest - the slash just writes itself!

Hmm. Might be a little long to put on an icon. "Just shag already!" would definitely fit though!

I am trying to remain strong and not collect any more than the 3 Merlin icons I have. But it is very difficult.

I am totally calling him the Great Slash Dragon from now on. That's fantastic.

And I seriously can't believe they are doing a damsel-in-distress quest with no damsel! It's just so squee-worthy - I can't wait.
