The second season of Dollhouse is creeping the shit out of me. I assume this is its intent but oh my lord does it make for some uncomfortable viewing. Addictive though, kind of like a car crash where I can't look away because I need to know where it goes. (I'm guessing somewhere bad.)

There has been at least one episode where I felt a need to take a bath afterwards and the rest are making me clutch cushions and go 'meep' in horror a lot. I mean the first season had its moments but they have turned the disturbometer up to 11 for this one.

I fund Dollhouse creepy but not in a good way, or an addictive way. I stopped after nine episodes and don't want to go back!

I find it horribly fascinating - well S1 I just found fascinating and a little creepy, but S2 is the slippery slope down to the end of civilisation as we know it. And apocalyptic downward spirals aren't usually my thing but it has caught me enough that I really do want to see how they get there. But I quite get as well why people wouldn't want to watch it!

Sounds as if the plot got very thick indeed!

I assume this is its intent

I did too...but then again, for the sake of my sanity -- not to mention my belief in humanity as whole, not a HOLE! -- I chose to stop watching or reading any Joss Whedon commentary.

Addictive though, kind of like a car crash where I can't look away because I need to know where it goes. (I'm guessing somewhere bad.)

Yes. AND YES.

I did like Dollhouse, though -- it wasn't my kind of Whedon show (I like more humour, and LESS RAPE, THANKS!) but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think that at least he gave us something different.

I haven't run across any Joss commentary, though I was going to listen to whatever was on the DVDs. I might not bother now. The only thing I can remember him saying particularly about it (other than how the network wouldn't go for various things) was how the series partly sprang from Eliza talking about her experiences as a young woman in television which I thought was kind of interesting.

It certainly was different. More humour and less rape would have been nice but I think I'll be watching again just to follow all the arcs for the characters like Adelle and Boyd and Topher rather than Echo and the dolls (though I do love Priya). I wish they had given Dominic more at the end, and Ivy - that was the other thing I picked up, a comment about having to shortchange some of the characters who deserved more of a sendoff due to being cancelled. I think another series would have given them time to really take off with some of the plots and do that - I do wish they had had longer.
