Huh. So would there have been a Methos at all then? Or would he have just been a one or two-shot character?
I can't help wondering what either of those changes plus Rev6.8/CaH being about Darius would have done to the HL fandom. I have a feeling there would have been a lot less of it for a start - every HL fan I know loves Darius, but I don't think even with that longer run the character would have been the same catnip for fangirls that Methos is, not unless his character drastically veered off from the foundations that were laid in the early seasons.
There are so many elements of Rev6.8/CaH in particular that would have played out differently with Darius rather than Methos, and his dynamic with Duncan as a whole is very different too. I'm sure they could have done some very interesting things with Darius but I'm not sure they would have had the same impact on the fandom and fanfic that the combination of Methos + the Horsemen did.
And I really wonder if Duncan/Darius would have become the juggernaut slash pairing of HL the same way D/M is. The fact that I can't remember reading a single fic (and I once read my way through pretty much every slashfic on Seventh Dimension) that was Duncan/Darius kind of makes me doubt it, but with time to morph their dynamic after Tessa died maybe they would have grabbed the top spot after all.
