bond, james bond

janne_dWay, way back in 1996, there was a tv series called Our Friends in the North following 4 friends over a couple of decades. Most of the people in it (see Christopher Eccleston and Mark Strong) went on to do amazing stuff, but they weren't why I kept watching. I was glued to the whole thing because of one actor: Daniel Craig. He made such an impression I remembered his name for years, and every so often I'd see it in a review and think that whatever it was would be worth watching just because he was in it. And generally that was correct.
Then Layer Cake came out and Mr Craig was so cool in that you could practically see ice forming in his footprints and I fell in love all over again, and pretty soon after that he was the new James Bond. Nearly everyone I knew had no idea who he was, but I was going "yes! yes! result!" and making them all watch Layer Cake to prove I knew what I was talking about (and it always worked too).
Anyway all of this is a prelude to my reaction to seeing Casino Royale tonight, and that goes something like this: SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
And also, I told people so. Bond is back. No, Bond is better than back, he is reborn, resurrected and remade into something infinitely superior. (I may even commit the heresy of saying Daniel Craig is going to give Sean Connery a run for his money in the best Bond stakes)
That film rocked.
