a wraithbait question

For anyone who has posted their fic there - perhaps I'm simply having a bad day, but I confess I just don't understand this bit in the instructions:
"2. Stories may be uploaded as either plain text or html, although some html tags are not permitted by the software. See the information next to the submission box on the submission page for details.
Where stories are uploaded as text files, they should be uploaded as text files without line breaks. If text files contain line breaks, then this screws up the formatting of your story, making it look odd at different screen resolutions.
3. Stories should be formatted to have a double space between paragraphs, for ease of reading. If you are using html, it's better to use two break tags [br][br] rather than a paragraph tag [p] to mark paragraphs, as the software used on this site occasionally does funny things with paragraph tags. If you are uploading a text file, the software automatically inputs a break [br] tag wherever you have used a carriage return. Therefore, in order to ensure that you have a double space between paragraphs, you should use two hard returns (hitting the enter key twice) rather than using all of the fancy formatting options in Word or similar, and then save your document as a plain text file without line breaks."
I'm assuming that doing the text version is easier, but what do they mean by line breaks? They aren't the same thing as hitting enter for new lines, right? Or are they? And how on earth do you save something without line breaks anyway? *is confused and possibly stupid*

You have
Rodney looked at John with lust in his eyes...
A meteor crashed into the planet.
Their software will sort out the lack of blank line etc.
Yes, it is brain breaking.

Date: 2007-03-24 05:41 pm (UTC)I'm pretty sure they mean the exact opposite, actually. They *do* want you to include a blank line between paragraphs (this is why you should hit the enter key twice.) By "without line breaks" they mean don't post a story that is formatted like this:
I'm assuming that doing
the text version is easier,
but what do they mean by
line breaks? They aren't
the same thing as hitting
enter for new lines, right?
Or are they? And how on earth
do you save something without

This paragraph has very short line length and a lot of line breaks. This is what they DON'T want your story to look like when you upload it. (Sometimes people do this to make their story 'fit' on the screen better, but as the Wraithbait help file says-- it starts looking funny when you change the font size on the screen.)
Basically, they want you to just have a normal txt document with a blank line between each paragraph, and to let the words 'wrap' around the screen and NOT put in an artificial 'line break' to make each line a certain length (as in my example above.)
Hope this helps!

Date: 2007-03-24 05:45 pm (UTC)I think this is the part where I curse archive systems and leave things to somebody who knows Waithbait.

Date: 2007-03-24 06:14 pm (UTC)Archiving systems are just confusing. Though I'm sure I managed to understand the due South squidge one better than this!

There, no more html editor!
I'd like to offer useful advice, but sadly I know nothing of such things. And I don't remember the squidge one being a problem... but it was a long time ago I used it (like back when I still wrote dS).

Date: 2007-03-24 06:16 pm (UTC)I figured I should archive stuff somewhere else at some point - if this is any indication of how easy I'm going to find it, it may take a while!
