I've done a bit more thinking about the planning of my ongoing girl!John WIP and actually managed to organise my notes into something resembling a running order and a three section plan.

The good:
1. I have completed the first of the three sections (I think) and started the second (the boundaries between them are pretty blurry, but that's currently how I'm thinking of it)
2. I have a pretty good idea of what is going to make up section 2, though the order isn't set in stone
3. I got some better ideas this week about how to do some of 2 and 3, which is cool

The bad:
1. Section 3 is a little sparse with plot ideas aside from the personal/emotional
2. On finishing section 1, it stands at approx. 49,500 words
3. This means I probably have at least that much to write again
4. This also means that it is likely to be the longest thing I have ever written, and I'm including my PhD thesis in that
5. This is very scary

But as a way to avoid actually working on the fic, it worked out really well... what, I can't procrastinate? But it's my major talent!

I know the feeling. I have something on the boil and the warp is still changing as I do the weft. (Does that make sense?) I've been starting on my section 2 (of 4, if I think of it that way) and I think I might have taken on a little too much (and I have a deadline and it grows like porridge or stone soup).

Advice of somebody who wrote a 70,000 word story? Don't worry about the vagueness of part three, it will grow from your mind as you work on section 2. Just keep writing and your subconscious will work out.

Really? Phew! I'm hoping that's what will happen, but it's good to hear it from someone who's been there. :-)

I saw you had another bfp on the go - did I miss you finishing the last one, or are you doing a few at once?

I definitely get the warp and weft thing. I could never be one of those people who post WIPs as they go because I can't be sure if the parts already written will stay as they are or need to be changed or added to because of something I haven't written yet. And then there are the bits that are a slightly clumsy that I'll get a better idea for and go back and rewrite, or change the direction of a conversation... and, yeah. No WIP posting for me.

When is your deadline? Is it really set in stone or do you have any leeway (it's not NaNo is it)? I'm sure you haven't taken on too much though - you've done these huge projects before so I'm sure you'll cope okay. *pets you back*

I have two bfps and one "Armando Langoustini nice gay boy" fic. One of the bfps is my solution for due South Seekrit Santa, so everything else is on hold until the first draft gets sent to beta. Hence absolute deadline of the 16th December and I want it off to beta around the 30th November, so I may well die from/for it.

It's expanding like nobody's business and my bad guy is really unpleasant.

I learnt about WIP posting the hard way, suffice to say I haven't done it since.

(the other bfp is the massive crossover of dS 6 degrees, including Callums fucking other Callums. That has a plot skeleton too. The first bfp (the one for the rsgs zine) got posted, but there is a re-edited cut finished and waiting to go live (it has a better ending mostly))

Ah, yes. I was mixing up the Langoustini thing with being a bfp I think. And I wasn't sure if you'd finished the many Callums at some point and I'd missed it.

It sounds like your sekrit santee is going to get a treat - I take it you managed to sort out that cool idea you had for it?

Langoustini is about 7000 words, working towards 12,000 ish. I suck at guesstimation.
The many Callums barely has any writing at all save for some dysfunctional Billy.

I've sorted out the cool idea. It just needs at least another 20,000 words. I might die first. I'm trying to treat it like Nano.

Nano sounds like a sexually transmitted disease, but then 10% of men think chlamydia is a flower.

Hahahahahaa! I live with a midwife so she gets to experience many strange baby names, and we nominated that as the STD most likely to end up as a name for some poor chav child...

Probably. How's your schedule for the next ten years looking? :-)

I love that you love girl!John. Your comments are keeping me going until I can finally post it.

*hugs* Good luck with figuring out how you want the plot for Section 3. And there is absoltely nothing wrong with epics, nothing! Really, you have me panting in anticpation at the mention of 49,500 words in Section 1. I friended you so that I don't miss this fic when it's posted, well that and you seem like my type of person.

Okay, don't hyperventilate there. This will be a long time coming - I don't want you to pass out from the panting!

Very cool on the friending - pull up a chair and make yourself at home. It seems like we've got a lot of the same interests actually - only I'm watching Heroes season 1 (in the UK) and trying valiantly to remain unspoiled, so I'm afraid the mentions in your lj of season 2 made me flee very quickly!
