end of year writing meme
Dec. 19th, 2007 10:17 pmIt's that time again.
List of stories I've written in 2007:
SGA:
Ficlets from quote prompts
A Dangerous Desire
Naked Under These Clothes
Misperception
Rare and Tender is the Touch
SGA/Torchwood:
A Holiday Humour
Torchwood:
Ficlets from quote prompts
Silence of the Night
Yesterday was But a Dream
My best story of this year:
Hands down, A Dangerous Desire.
My favourite story of this year:
Hmm, let me think… okay, okay, it's A Dangerous Desire again. (Like there was any doubt.) I suppose technically it was mostly written last year, but I only posted in February. And the relief at finally getting it finished and out there was huge, and then the reaction was really amazing, and it was just this whole really big satisfying thing.
What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January 2007?
Torchwood in general and SGA/Torchwood (though once I'd paired John with the Doctor, there was really no reason for him not to get some Jack-loving too). I think Torchwood only started in Jan 07 so there was no way I could predict writing that.
Most fun story to write:
It's pretty evenly spread between A Holiday Humour where I got to picture Jack Harkness and John Sheppard getting it on for the whole thing, and Misperception where I got to turn Rodney being oblivous up to 11 (wish I'd thought of a better title though).
Sexiest Story:
Naked Under These Clothes. The premise hits one of my own kinks and there was a paragraph near the start where I think I just about got the why of it down in words, so I was quite pleased with that.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Tricky. I've got a few nominations for this, two from A Dangerous Desire – the dinner in the inn with John teasing like mad and getting so close to kissing Rodney, and the moment after they finally do kiss when Rodney kisses John's thumb and agrees to go home with him – and one from A Holiday Humour, the moment when John is getting really hot and bothered over Jack teasing at his throat. I really, really like all those bits. Ooh, and the aforementioned bit in Naked Under These Clothes and the moment in that when Rodney slides his hand into the back of John's pants…
Um. I'll stop now. (Okay, I'm crap at decisions like this).
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story:
Hm, probably killing off the entire Torchwood team in Yesterday was But a Dream. Particularly Ianto's death *evil laugh*
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters:
I don't think I have one of these this year. Though I am very proud of the bit in A Holiday Humour where John thinks:
He really was flirting with John. Geez, Jack was… well, he was like Rodney thought John was. Which just proved that Rodney was delusional because John was nowhere near this smooth.
Hardest story to write:
Strangely enough, A Holiday Humour. I thought it was going to be this nice easy PWP, because seriously, how much work could it be to get two guys that hot together? And then John went and got all hesitant about it and it ended up being about twice as long as I'd thought and it took me forever to get them to a place where sex could happen!
Biggest Disappointment:
None.
Did you take any writing risks this year? (See above for unexpected pairings, etc.) What did you learn from them?
Not really, I think. A Dangerous Desire is the longest thing I've written to date (though the current WIP has recently overtaken it), so that was different, but like I said above it was mostly written in 2006. I suppose I learned that I'm slow when it comes to long fics! And I played about with tenses a little in Yesterday was But a Dream and Rare and Tender is the Touch, from which I learned that it is a good thing to have a beta who can keep track of which tense I'm actually trying to write in (*waves at
torakowalski*). Yesterday was But a Dream is probably the darkest thing I've written as well – I was trying to get emotions through in quite short sections. I don't know how well that succeeded for anyone else, but Tosh's bit does actually make me get a bit teary.
Biggest Surprise:
Uh… writing my first two Torchwood stories as gen? Does that count? It was surprising considering that Captain Jack Harkness was involved!
Most Unintentionally Telling Story:
Probably Naked Under These Clothes, if there is one at all.
Conclusions:
Writing a long story is hard, but made worth it by the feedback. Jack Harkness is difficult to write (I wouldn't even consider writing from his POV) and Torchwood tends to inspire me with gen for some reason, possibly because there was so much sexy in the show already. And there should always be more genderfuck in SGA.
