OMFG Torchwood!

Just watched Adam and Reset back to back.
Adam
1. I hadn't been spoilered but I knew just from the altered intro where this was going to go because they'd snuck in shots of Adam.
2. Talking of Adam, how creepy was that little bastard? It obviously wasn't going to go for the comedy like when they used the same trick in Buffy, but holy crap he was creepy, all that leaning in to touch people, urgh. I spent most of the episode going "get away from him!" at various people.
3. Particularly poor Tosh. It made my skin absolutely crawl to watch them kiss. About the only saving grace there is that she doesn't remember - the one time I like the use of retcon (and for Ianto's sake too).
4. I loved the bits when Jack's memories started to break through, very effective how the people would appear and then vanish like that. And then he told Adam about it, aaargh. I was shaking my fists impotently at that point.
5. About the only thing that didn't make me whimper in a distressed manner in this episode was Owen's transformation into, well, Tosh. That was actually rather sweet, though obviously still creepy that Adam had essentially replaced him.
6. I felt so bad for Rhys. I really adore Gwen and Rhys together now and all of that section was fabulously done - I really liked how she started to remember in the shop.
7. And Ianto! Poor wee love, I just wanted to hug him so much (and kill Adam in a painful way, natch). I loved how controlled he managed to be around Adam later though, go Ianto! No fake memories are going to knock you off balance for long. Really liked that Jack just refused to believe what Ianto was saying could be true, despite the lie detector, and the way he hugged him.
8. Finally, actual Jack backstory. Yet we still don't get his real name - I think the writers just can't think of anything now that won't sound silly. It was interesting that he said the Boeshane Peninsula was always under threat of invasion because that means he spent his early life in, if not always actually a war zone, places where fear, loss and crisis are common and we know that he joined up to fight when he was pretty young too. Poor Jack - and no wonder he always reacts so strongly to a possible invasion.
Reset
1. OMG, OMG, OMG!
2. Right, now that's out of the way... loved Martha's entrance and the way both Gwen and Owen try to find out a bit more about Jack from her. I also loved the way Jack said he would trust her at the end of the world, and that he already had. Also, it was nice that there wasn't any jealousy or resentment about her presence. Loved the nod to the Doctor and year that never was.
3. I liked the way her and Owen worked together in their little testing montage and at the hospital. They had a good dynamic.
4. Though their dynamic was totally beaten by the utter sweetness of Tosh finally getting the courage for a real move, and the way Owen took her up on it (with the proviso that he could still flirt). They were so adorable! (And I should have known right then, I really should).
5. Jim Robinson as evil ethic-less doctor was cool. I liked the interactions between him and Jack, all that trying to control the conversation and head-butting.
6. Come to think of it, Jack and Owen worked together this week really well too. And so did Ianto and Gwen. Everything seemed to be firing on all cylinders, smooth as silk. Nice to see.
7. Also nice to see was the way Gwen burst through the door gun first to stop the assassin.
8. Lots of tension with Martha wandering about the place and then getting caught an injected with the Reset. I was getting worried (but the guff about her immune system was interesting - apparently travelling with the Doctor is good for your health).
9. And the end pretty much broke me. I went "shoot him, shoot him, shoot him... oh fuck". Bastard. I'm really glad Jack killed Doctor Evil. I shall now go "meep" a lot and pray that next week gives us a get out clause, because damn it, I like Owen.
Bloody Torchwood. (meep)

Date: 2008-02-15 04:44 am (UTC)By the way, I found your LJ 'cause I watched both episodes with a friend:
Her: *starts rummaging through the ENTIRE INTERNET*
Me: "You're not going to sleep until you find a reaction on LJ, are you?"
Her: "...no."
Me: "IM me if you find anything. I'm going home. Good night."
Her: *IMs me before I make it home*
So...hello! *waves*

Date: 2008-02-16 12:49 pm (UTC)I think most of the people I know just watched Adam too - I nearly did the same thing as your friend but I was much too traumatised!
And next weeks' looks just as traumatising, argh.
Meep. Meep.
