by way of [livejournal.com profile] fajrdrako:

1. How about a brief introduction?

Well, according to my user info I like BtVS, ceilidhs, Doctor Who, due South, Highlander, Lois McMaster Bujold, LotR, poetry, SGA, tai chi, Terry Pratchett, Torchwood and U2. So that must be true. I also like swords, lots of different food stuffs, long vodkas and sleeping late at the weekends.

2. What got you into fanfiction?

Way back in, um, 1998/1999 I went looking for stuff about the tv series Highlander on the net. Among a lot of other things, I found the Seventh Dimension archive and I discovered that fanfiction existed. Shortly after that, I read some slash by Aristide and due South slash by Aristide and Bone and had my mind blown, partly because OMGsohot and partly because of the epiphany that I wasn't the only one pairing up sexy guys.

I hung out in HL fandom for a bit, read pretty much every other fandom that caught my eye though dS was the one that stuck, and then around late 2004ish (I think) found my way to livejournal and [livejournal.com profile] ds_flashfiction. Then in early 2005 I signed up for my very own lj account and posted my very first slash fic Double Take .

3. What kind of fanfiction do you write?

The genre is mostly slash with a few gen exceptions. I like happy endings, so I do that, and there are a few PWPs and crossovers on the list.

4. What is your most popular fic/muse, and why do you think people like it so?

Most popular fic is without a doubt A Dangerous Desire. I think it's a pretty good story – something I take no credit for since I borrowed the plot points from a book – and I think from comments that people liked how I fitted various characters into the AU world.

5. Forget other people, what is the fanfic/post/prompt you've written that you're most proud of?

Um. Probably still A Dangerous Desire. Or, no, Taking Time might just edge past it. It went in a direction I didn't quite anticipate but it worked. I'm also proud of The Fine Art of Cartography from my dS phase.

6. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What aspects do you struggle with?

Yes. No. All of them sometimes.

7. Do you write for the same pairings/characters?

Usually, though I branch out occasionally with crossovers.

8. Write a few sentences of your favorite pairing or character.

John stirred on the bed, scrunched up his face briefly and blinked his eyes open. There was a moment's pause and then he said, "Rodney?"

"Yes?"

"What happened?"

"You, uh, don't remember?" Rodney asked, going for incredulous but hitting more nervous.

"I remember dancing and wine and some really bad chanting, which I think I joined in," John said frowning. "I don't remember going to bed."

"Yes, that may have been because you were drunker than an alcoholic newt and completely incapable of independent movement, and if it wasn't for me you would be sprawled in a ditch somewhere with cold slimy mud oozing through your clothing, but do I get any thanks?" Rodney said tartly.

"Okay, okay, thanks," John said and then his faced screwed up again in thought. "So why am I naked?"

"Um," Rodney said and felt his face go red.

9. Are there any fanfiction trends/cliches you hate?

Not really a trend, but I loathe it when people spell the characters' names wrong. Ooh, and easy and articulate declarations of love from characters with the canonical emotional intelligence of potatoes without some serious justification by the build-up. Gratuitous meanness and mistreatment/humiliation of characters in order to fit the author's prejudices.

10. Are you guilty of any of the trends you hate?

Only in my head when I will quite happily character-assassinate people and be OOC for the cheap satisfaction of it.

I may have a declaration of love somewhere that's actually posted, but I'm not really sure.

11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you still write for it?

Technically HL, though I don't really count that as fanfiction because it was more playing with about with muses and my fictional alter ego in a shared imaginary space built up by a forum rather than anything actually to do with the show. So dS is really the first and I don't write for it anymore. I'm a little sad about that, but apparently my brain can only really focus on one universe at a time.

12. Name your OTPs and explain what is it about them you love to write.

John Sheppard/Rodney McKay, Benton Fraser/Ray Kowalski, Jack Harkness/everyone.

I like to write Sheppard and McKay because they are both such ginormous dorks and totally oblivious to pretty much everything except when they're really trying and because they would totally face certain death and destruction out of loyalty to each other and probably really fuck up anyone who hurt the other one.

Ray and Fraser are fun to write because they have such distinctive voices and POVs and because dS has a cracky canonical universe with all the magical realism anyway. It's also quite easy to be funny in a dS fic and I like that.

Jack Harkness/everyone is just hot.

13. What would you call your writing style?

Hmm. I'm not really sure I have one. I played about a bit more when I was writing dS flashfics. I hope that I'm fairly transparent and light in style. Readable is always the aim.

14. Do you read other people's writing? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?

Slash with happy endings. Interesting character studies by smart people.

15. Name one thing you'd love to write but have been too afraid or shy to do.

Uh… I wouldn't say afraid, but Jack Harkness POV or the Doctor POV. I feel comfortable writing how they act but I don't know how they think. Which is sad because I would like to write a Jack/Doctor fic sometime but the fact I struggle with either of their POVs makes it kind of difficult

16. Do you feel uncomfortable taking criticism? Or worse, do you have the dreaded bloated ego?

I'm fine with my beta criticising as much as possible. I don't know how I'd react to a lot of criticism as feedback; I hope I would be fine with it and take on board anything constructive.

17. When you write, is there anything that helps?

Something to write on/in.

18. What inspires you?

Fandom.

19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fanfiction/RP experiences and you as a writer?

Gah. Fun, entertaining, not crap.

20. Tag some friends, because they'll hate you for it.

Uh… I wouldn't say afraid, but Jack Harkness POV or the Doctor POV.

Word. So much word. When I imagine the inside of Jack's head I just see empty space like when Tosh was trying to read his mind. And the Doctor is just intimidating!

The Doctor is very, very intimidating. 900 yr-old alien with perceptions of the universe outside of human experience - yeah, those thought processes will be a breeze to write .

And Jack is almost as bad for having a different perspective. I don't think I could do either of them justice.

Jack Harkness POV or the Doctor POV

I can do the Doctor, but Jack? That is so hard. I tried, once, in tiny snippets in a stalled WIP, but that's about as far as I've come with Jack's thought processes. I adore him to pieces, but I've no idea how he thinks.

(Also, OMG, give me a day or so to ponder this. Some of these questions are hard!)

I'm fairly in awe of your Doctor! I don't know how you do it at all.

And Jack is just as hard for me so I totally agree with you there. At least you've attempted him - I just go 'ack' and back away.

I find it quite bizarre that they are both the main characters in a show, there is loads of things we've seen them do and say and react to, and the insides of their heads are both still a complete mystery to me. I think it is a funtion of trying to do them both justice with how their perspectives are so outside the world I live in.

Hee, thank you! I don't know why I find it so easy to get into the Doctor's head, but I do. Jack, on the other hand, is a complete enigma. I adore him to pieces, but ... *shrugs*

And yeah, strange, isn't it, how someone can be the main character of a show, and yet such an enigma. Strange, and kinda awesome, when you think about it. :D

I tried but it was way too much of a struggle. I don't know anything about my writing style beyond recognisable and disturbing.

Ah, never mind then. I thought of you because you do have a recognisable style, but no struggling is required.

I could say something about how you recognise that I recognise I have a recognisable style now, but I won't

:-P

The current WIP seems not to be very in progress at all. I'm getting ideas and figuring stuff out, but I can't get the ball rolling again and I think half my brain is hiding under the table until it goes away again. :-(
