On my way to the supermarket this morning, I spied a sticker that someone had attached to the pedestrian crossing right underneath the switch saying "hyperspace button". Hee.
Maybe you went through a very localised hyperspace window so they only *looked* stopped.
Ah ha! That's obviously where the swirly sky effects and stirring soundtrack came from too!
