Memorable lines
Sep. 6th, 2008 02:20 pmThis week's
fannish5: Five favorite (or most memorable) lines of dialogue.
Guess them all (source and/or speaker) and win a drabble of your choice.
1. Also, I can kill you with my brain.
2. We can do you blood and love without the rhetoric, and we can do you blood and rhetoric without the love, and we can do you all three concurrent or consecutive. But we can't give you love and rhetoric without the blood. Blood is compulsory.
3. I go to join my fathers, in whose mighty company I shall not now be ashamed.
4. I walk. I talk. I shop, I sneeze, I'm gonna be a fireman when the floods roll back. There's trees in the desert since you moved out, and I don't sleep on a bed of bones.
5. I hope to see my friend and shake his hand. I hope the Pacific is as blue as it has been in my dreams. I hope.

rivier got them all - a Torchwood drabble of some description will therefore appear at some point.

Date: 2008-09-06 03:06 pm (UTC)1. River Tam, Firefly though I can't remember which ep
2. the Player, Roseoncrantz and Guildenstern are Dead (which you know)
3. Theoden King, RotK
4. Buffy, Restless
5. Red, The Shawshank Redemption. The very last lines of it, in fact.

Date: 2008-09-06 03:31 pm (UTC)It's one of the best films of ... the 90s I think it came out, but whichever decade, it is one of the best. It wasn't huge in the cinema but it is massive on video and DVD because of word of mouth. It tends to come high up on any list that people vote on.
Red is the narrator and is played by Morgan Freeman (oh, that voice) and the other main character is played by Tim Robbins. It starts in the 30s when Andy Dufresne is sent to Shawshank Prison, follows the characters up to the 60s (I think), and it may not sound like it but has one of the mightiest feelgood endings I know. It's about friendship and stubborness and hope and the narration is sublime.
And those lines I quoted make me teary just thinking about them, never mind watching it.

Date: 2008-09-06 02:25 pm (UTC)To the first one I want to say Rodney, but I think that's just the fandom talking...

Date: 2008-09-06 03:08 pm (UTC)Yeah - fandom is actually quoting River Tam from Firefly *grins* But it does fit Rodney nicely.
The rest are:
2. the Player, Roseoncrantz and Guildenstern are Dead
3. Theoden King, RotK
4. Buffy, Restless
5. Red, The Shawshank Redemption

Date: 2008-09-06 02:27 pm (UTC)2. (Player King?), R&G are Dead
3. Theoden (though I *nearly* went for Boromir!) Return of the King
4. Buffy (in Restless, one of my faves!), BtVS
5. Morgan Freeman's character (Red?), Shawshank Redemption.
How did I do? I'm quite disconcerted that I heard every one in my head, and saw the scene in 4 out of the 5, as I read them. Geek culture FTW! Didn't see any particular R&G as I've seen a few versions now.
If I win - and if you're in the mood for a drabble - I'd love a bit of Torchwood of course! And if I could be really aspirational... I'd have Ianto and Gwen in a non-smutty way. Or, Ianto moody and Jack indulgent. Or something with rain as I've just come back home from being royally pissed on by the heavens. Yum!

Date: 2008-09-06 03:02 pm (UTC)I've only actually seen the film R&G. I'd like to see the play sometime, but damn Tim Roth and Gary Olman were adorable in the film!
So yes, you do totally win. Give me a bit to think of a drabble and I'll get back to you...
(Also, I think we may bave hot water back again for the first time in 4 days and I quite need to go have a hot shower.)
