Merlin: The Beginning of the End

janne_dThat was surpisingly tense.
1. I liked that Merlin went to Morgana to hide the boy - because he knows she has the Sight? There was a lovely conversation between them when she talked about magic chosing a person and not the other way around. I think Merlin probably wanted to tell her then quite a lot.
2. Morgana can play Arthur like a fiddle. And she totally rocked in that scene. It actually makes me a bit sorry for Arthur; he clealy never has a chance of saying no to any of her schemes.
3. The boots were completely cheesy but very funny.
4. The keys on the other hand were utterly hilarious. I shrieked with laughter all through that bit. Poor Arthur! Hearing jangly noises but not finding the source, oh that was brilliant.
5. Did anyone not think that the boy was going to turn out to be Mordred? I did just from the way they never revealed his name until the end - he was obviously going to be someone from the legends. Apparently he's not Arthur's illegitimate child in this though, unless Arthur was very precocious. Lots of nice ominous music at that scene and the kid they had playing him managed to be suitably creepy. They were making Morgana's connection with him all doom-laden too towards the end.
6. Uther is a scary, scary man. That scene where he had Morgana by the throat... yikes! And the one where he flat out told her that if she ever crossed him again he would have her killed - you obviously only get one reprieve from Uther and that's it. And this is someone he loves and was frantic over when she was ill!
7. They actually had me seriously wondering whether Merlin would let Mordred get caught again, which is impressive considering I should have known they wouldn't execute a 10yr-old on a family show. I was panicking about how Arthur would never trust Merlin again if he didn't go and that Arthur would actually kill some of his own guards and lose all the trust of his men... and then Merlin did turn up and I was relieved (and even more convinced the kid was Mordred).
8. Obviously Mordred isn't going to be causing anyone's downfall for quite some time, but when he does, Merlin is going to have to live with knowing he could have prevented it. And that is surprisingly harsh for this series
