Figured I'd post a link to my answer to the Bad Magic challenge over here as well:

The Evil We Make

Gen, 300 odd words and Nimueh's POV. Very strange to try and do since she hasn't been in the show that much, but that was the idea I had so I went with it.

I think that Merlin could do with having a bit of a stronger Big Bad to be honest, or giving the Big Bad (or the series I suppose) a more consistent arc. It's unfair to compare I suppose, but by this point in, for example, BtVS or Doctor Who we would have been seeing the build up to the finale as the whole storyline of the last couple of episodes. But with Merlin, we're at the season finale and the last episodes have still felt like standalones.

Not that I'm not absolutely dying with excitement at seeing the finale, mind.

I agree about the Big Bad. I think they can do something good with Nimueh, though. (if her actress wasn't quite so wooden D:) and i actually like her character and what she's about. now i'm going to go and check out that fic ;)

I think Nimueh is an interesting character, but so far she is quite limited in what they've done with her. But I'm assuming she will be around for a while so maybe there will be more in the next series. (next series! yay!)

I agree that there doesn't seem to be any kind of plan at all through this season (you can just barely judge where an episode was placed by how 'friendly' Arthur and Merlin are with each other). Sometimes it's refreshing, but I wonder what they'll do for S2 (and whether we'll get more than 13 eps! How long is the average Doctor Who season?).

Well they've said that they are planning for 5 series so there must be some kind of plan! I think the first season is usually a settling-in phase - see Torchwood, and BtVS for that matter, for example - where the plan isn't as worked out.

Sadly, Doctor Who is also 13 episodes and we are highly unlikely to get a Merlin series that is longer than that. For a British series that isn't a soap, that is actually fairly long. A lot of series are 6 or 8 episodes like Life on Mars. I don't know why - I think we just don't have the budgets for longer genre shows.

Oh British TV. *sigh* Though it's kind of nice to KNOW that the series won't drag like some American shows do. The middle can't sag because it's the end!
