The film De-lovely about Cole Porter was on last night at an uncivilised hour, so I recorded it to watch today because I do love all the Cole Porter songs I know: Let's Fall in Love, Night and Day, Anything Goes, I Get a Kick Out of You, You're the Top, It's De-lovely, I've Got You Under My Skin...

The film itself is not the most amazing I've seen, but I'm curious enough about Cole Porter's life to enjoy it and it is really the songs I'm watching for anyway.

And it was a de-lovely surprise to find John Barrowman popping up, though I suppose I should have expected it really. He sang Night and Day and, man, can he sing it. Just gorgeous - I got all tingly. I wish they'd had him for some of the other songs instead of cameos from people like Robbie Williams and Mick Hucknall, though I have to say Elvis Costello and Lemar, who I did not recognise in the least, were pretty darn good.

Oh, and guess the name of the character John Barrowman played? Jack! I couldn't quite believe it.

Now there's an intriguing bunny - Captain Jack being a Broadway musical star and having an affair with Cole Porter. Did they ever mention Cole Porter in Torchwood? Would have been a nice little in-joke.

They haven't mentioned Cole Porter on Torchwood - yet. But it's hard not to believe that Jack was Jack!

I know! It was just so perfect a link, you wouldn't even need to call it a crossover really. Though the character wasn't hugely Jack Harkness-like.

In De-Lovely Jack didn't drop comments abut time travel or openly flirt with Porter - at first. (Didn't need to.) Seemed Jack-like enough to me, in that it wasn't a big role. I wish it had been!
