I just dropped out of the boxofmagic Merlin BigBang. *sigh*

There is just no way I was going to get a complete first draft done by 24 June - I've had a lot going on in RL and I'm still two emotional confrontations, three action sequences and a bit with a dragon away from an ending. I'm a bit gutted that I won't get to be part of it and get an artwork and all that...

But!

I have managed to write 44000 words in 4 months, which for me is nothing short of miraculous. (Seriously. My last long fic at 48000 words took me over a year.) And I will definitely finish it and post it at some point because there's bits still I really want to write. So the sky isn't entirely dark and I'm glad I had go because I wouldn't have written this fic at all otherwise.

Aw I know how it is with RL, it always gets in the way. Hope everything sorts itself out soon and I look forward to reading your fic once you're done with it :)

Yeah, I was a bit optimistic when I started because I'd forgotten that May and June are always busy months for me. I'd have needed to be a lot further on with it to make the deadline - and I just didn't get sorted out with what I was doing fast enough!

Oh, god, do I ever understand (as you well know). I just wanted to say that 44,000 words is an amazing achievement, one that I'm really admiring of; well done, and you're right to focus on the effort that went into it, and its payoff--I, for one, am really impressed.

Yeah, darn that pesky RL keeping us from writing Merlin! Though you had much better reasons for not writing than mine - I've just had too many social things come up (birthdays, mini holidays away, nights out...) I spend most of the year not being particularly sociable at all and I always forget that May and June are my busy time. I can't recall if I actually commented to say, but I'm glad you didn't post that bit of Easy There you weren't happy with - much better to take a break and come back to it fresh. We'll all still be here!

I'm pretty darn proud of how much I've got done so far with the BigBang- I'm not that fast a writer usually. I don't know how those people who seem to knock off a 30000 word epic in a week do it. It seems having a deadline really does help, even if I didn't make it.

You've written (or are writing) a long Merlin fic? Is that posted anywhere? ...from everything I've seen so far, you're a fantastic author and a big-bang length story by you would be epically wonderful.
:) And sorry for this being a solid year after you posted (and prolly long after you've moved on)... I'm blaming this on the American media being so slow on the uptake (and the stack of homework I have chasing me through RL). ;)
