I should climb on. From lots of people:

Ask me one fandom-related question in the comments. This can be fandom specific, general, or about fandom/lj stuff/fic writing/etc. in general.

Just one question, please, but it can (and perhaps should) have sub-parts.

Question can be as wacky as you want. Ask me about tv shows, characters, fanfic in general, fandom issues/meta, anything about any of my stories specifically. Whatever you want.

Which fandom have you surprised yourself the most by getting involved with? And, related to that, are there any fandoms that you really wish you could write in but can't quite feel the connection?

Hm, the one that surprised me most is actually Merlin. Normally I read in a fandom for quite a while and only then do I get involved by writing (if I write for it at all, several I just read) so I tend to come into fandoms after they are fairly established - SGA for example had been going a few years before I even read any fic and that was because I kept seeing names I knew writing it. But Merlin I was there right out of the gate - I think I went looking for comms after the first episode - and writing for it after only a few episodes had shown. And I really wasn't expecting to be involved like that with this series; I wasn't looking for another fandom, I actually only watched it because it had Anthony Stuart Head in it from Buffy and I honestly thought it was probably going suck like the recent BBC Robin Hood. And then Merlin and Arthur hit me like an anvil because they were so rude to each other and awkward idiots and unexpectedly noble and wonderful and adorable, and that was pretty much that.

Fandoms I wish I could write - Doctor Who. As much as I love it, I can't find a way in other than that SGA crossover I did way back when. Mostly I think it's because I find the Doctor himself very difficult. I can just about write how he acts but I have no idea how he thinks and since I write 3rd person POV almost exclusively and I've never really connected to a companion yet either... I need a character telling me what's happening to get the plots and it just doesn't come for that series.

I wouldn't mind writing ST XI either but I'm just not up enough on ST canon in general - and I think that is a fandom where, reboot or not, it does need background knowledge of the rest.

I was exactly the same, I definitely expected Merlin to suck. I didn't even watch the first episode and only watched the second when people on my flist told me too.

They're so precious really, aren't they? ♥ Well I'm glad Merlin unexpectedly found its way into your affections; I really, really like your Merlin stuff.

Wow, yes, I can't imagine trying to write the Doctor. The things he must have seen and the experiences that you'd have to refer to back to in order to make him feel fleshed out would be epic.

I actually tried watching Original Series Star Trek after the movie came out but it's just... really not my thing. The movie is funny and glossy and awesome, but the series felt so old fashioned and stilted. /o\

Aw, shucks. *scuffs feet bashfully*

I can't watch ST TOS - William Shatner makes my skin crawl. I mean, seriously, he's like nails on a blackboard and the longer he's onscreen the more I want to throw something at it and shriek.

But [livejournal.com profile] thefourthvine has done a couple of recaps recently that remove any need I have to see the real episodes because there is no way they could live up to the joy of the recaps!

And the Doctor - just way too intimidating. I am in awe of [livejournal.com profile] trobadora writing him the way she does, but I know there is no way I could get there. I'm just not that deep!
