Someone's trying to monetize fandom again. And is duly being roasted - possibly I should have gone with marshmallows on sticks instead of popcorn.

What is deeply bizarre is the fandoms he's been buying into: is there any connection between Twilight, LotR and the Winnie the Pooh fandoms? I wouldn't have thought so but maybe there is some epic crossover I'm missing.

LOL! I have been wondering how he picked those sites in particular.

It has been deeply amusing me trying to work out how he got from one to the other!

Though having read more posts, it seems there was as much an idea of developing some kind of tech to use across his new empire as of combining userbases - which I would think is pretty much a non-starter!

*dies laughing* OMG, on the topic of crossover possiblities: some other people's brains went here (http://jumpuphigh.dreamwidth.org/70727.html) (do not read if you are of a sensitive disposition or will object to your childhood being ruined...)

This can only end badly for him. It's like watching a train wreck about to happen. I just can't turn away! Also, you totally know there's a story out there about a sparkling vampire who gets lost in the Hundred Acres Wood and is found by Winnie the Pooh and Gandalf.

Me either - and since I'm not involved in any of those fandoms, it's been highly entertaining to read the posts. I particularly liked the comparison of fandom to a coral reef that I saw - it went something like outsiders only see the teenage fandom members out in front being brightly coloured little fish who like shiny things, but back a bit there are great whites lurking in the form of all the fen who've been here years, and built the archives, and run the comms, and are smart as hell and have seen this all before and will chomp the outsider's legs off before they know it...

Though the people who have been burned at LotRFF have all my sympathy for having their site pulled out from under them like that.

And if I could just be sure that this fic ended with the sparkly vampire being pwned by Winnie while Gandalf watches approvingly before turning said vamp into a jar of honey, I might even want to read it!

Hahaha! Yeah, I would read that, too, so long as the sparkly vampire got it in the end.

I was in LoTR, but my stories were only ever posted to Archives of Arda and my own LJ, so I'm not affected. Still. Can't wait to see the sharks get him!

There should be a fest whose sole purpose is to kill off as many sparkly vampires as possible... like the Buffy vs. Edward (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZwM3GvaTRM) vid only in writing.

I'm glad your stories have escaped - lets you sit back and enjoy the frenzy stress-free!

Oh, the fallout is highly entertaining! Elf has been doig a linkspam here (http://elf.dreamwidth.org/428169.html), and as much as I feel genuinely bad for the fans who've been caught in this, the round of everyone just going "dear god, not again, *facepalm*" it's a fascinating read.

(Also, someone went there (http://jumpuphigh.dreamwidth.org/70727.html) with a possible (and kinky) crossover of two of the fandoms in question and I laughed a lot.)

Is it as bad/good as the Care Bear bondage fic?

And do I want to find out?

Oh, it's not graphic - might give you some disturbing images, but it mostly made me shriek with laughter. (The comments go a little further from the few I read though.)

I haven't read the Care Bear bondage fic (*boggles*) so I can't make a comparison.

OMG, not again. Because that's such a new idea and no-one else has ever thought of something like that before.

It's hilarious but my eyes are hurting from all the rolling they are doing.

I know, this guys just this amazing genius innovator! He'll make a killing!

The eye-rolling is starting to get extreme - but I've been loving all the posts by smart people at Elf's linkspam (http://elf.dreamwidth.org/428169.html). All the fandom love, you know? It's nice (and the snark and facepalming is funny as heck).

Elf's linkspam is awesome. I love that there are so many brilliant people in fandom. The snark is fabulous to behold.

Yeah, that would be the other option available. I wonder which is more probable? *ponders*
