Why is it that there are some fic where I know they are OOC, and about as interestingly plotted as a dictionary, and with as much realism in people's actions as a chicken has teeth, but I feel compelled to keep reading anyway?

Why?

(This question brought to you by the fact I read a couple of hundred thousand words of a particular series at the weekend, and I have absolutely no idea what the reason was.)

I liken it to a train wreck. You know you should look away, you know it's not going to end well, and you know there's absolutely nothing you can do to help it. But you can't look away, and end up reading to the horrible end.

Yes, it was exactly like a train wreck. Though I did regain enough control to tap out while there were still about 5 sequels to go!

Perhaps we all have slight tendencies to literary masochism at times.
