Started a job on Monday, which is going OK but will be much better when they stop making me read pages and pages of standard operating procedures and actually let me do something. God I'm so bored!

Plus I have an enormous blood-filled blister on my foot which has prevented me from going to a ceilidh tonight and I am very unhappy because I wanted to dance, damnit.

Also, said blister makes walking to the train station to get to my job rather unpleasant. Since I don't trust the one bus in an hour that would theoretically get me there in time to actually do what it claims, it also makes it a bit expensive as I may be forced to take a taxi if my foot isn't any happier tomorrow morning.

Grr. Argh.

So, if anyone feels like asking me 5 questions in the meme that's going around (see [livejournal.com profile] buzzylittleb for details because I can't be arsed typing them) I may or may not answer depending on whether I'm still sulking or have gone to bed (I have to be up at 6.30 am).

I'm not entirely sure what a ceilidh is. Considering my ancestors went south for the winter in the eighteenth century and never came back...

1)Why can't you be arsed? Where did you see your arse last?

2)Favorite classical author and why.

Argh this is difficult beyond belief, she says (and she waves her wooden leg)

3)Have you ever gone to a fancy dress party and turned heads? Alternatively, have you ever knowingly subverted a dress code at a party? (Yes, there is a story behind this)

This really is quite difficult.

4)Is this a question? (okay, so I'm stuck)

5)Have you ever tried to explain slash to somebody else outside fanfic land? In the flesh.

Geez, you ask hard ones!

1) I can't be arsed because I have been up at 6.30 am all week! And the last time I saw my arse was last Sat when I was trying on some very nice new combat-type trousers.

2) Erg. Do you mean Classical as in actually writing in ye ancient times? I'm not sure I've read enough, really. Plowed through about 2/3 of Herodotus, made a valiant attempt at Homer... I like Plato's poems, the little Rumi I've read and the Rubbaiyat of Ommar Khayyam, for the absolutely gorgeous images they have. I also loved I, Claudius by Robert Graves, if that counts, because it was readable and humorous and sick and fascinating.

3) I was a sexy devil once... but no, not really. What's the story?

4) Yes.

5) Nope, never. I did once read an article on it in my parents' Sunday paper (the Observer I think) but it wasn't discussed. The nearest I've come is trying to explain why I like it to some non-slashers in the Highlander fandom.

1) poor you!

2) That's fine and dandy by me. Start talking to me about classics and I assume your another of our rabid band. I read I Claudius at fourteen and might disagree slightly with your statement that it's an easy read.

3)Okay I once went to a departmental toga party (under)dressed as a Ancient Briton. In a mini kilt, a bikini top and lots of swirly blue body paint. And then proceeded (accompanied by the evil twin [livejournal.com profile] shadowkittracey) to harass the chaps in togas with my sword.

4)I forgot the question

5)I have. My friend Gisela and I (she credits me with "introducing her to the evil of comics"). I also tried to explain fanfic to a guy I know. I think he freaked. Maybe GAFF and ff.net weren't the best places for a little "show and tell". I have a bit of a record for doing stupid things like that.

I don't think I'm in any rabid bands. I used to get books on Greek, Viking and Indian legends out of the children's section of the library (and I wish now I had just stolen them, because they were great and I bet you can't get them anymore) and I like all that type of story. My problem with the Homer and Herodotus I tried is one of style - I find it very hard to get involved with any of the characters and that has always been crucial to my enjoying any fiction. I enjoyed Herodotus more as it reads more amusingly - my problem there was I was too busy trying to keep track of who was who to get into the story!

So, particularly in comparison to those guys, Robert Graves is very readable for me because it's all first person narrative and it just seems to flow merrily along.

btw, (3)? You rock like a rocking thing!

You rock like a rocking thing! Why, thank you!

Homer, I understand. I'm homerphobic.

Aww ... *sends sympathy for the blisters* If it's any consulation I went to a ceilidh last summer with a busted achilles tendon and then got my foot stamped on :)

I'll do the meme thing later ... too sleepy at the mo, plus it gives me time to think up evil questions ;)

Okay ... questions:

1. Favourite dS fanfic ever ... yes, just one ;)

2. Do people in your RL know you write fanfic?

3. Favourite place on earth?

4. If you could be anyone (fictional or not) who would you be?

5. Silver or gold?

Yes, I know they're weird questions ... but they're what my brain wants to know! Feel free to ask me anything equally weird, if you want :)

Hit me with the tricky one first thing, why don't you!

1) It has to be How Ray Got His Groove Back by Bone and Aristide. So hot, so very very hot and so beautifully in character I occasionally think it actually was an episode... (if only!)

2) Nope. Some know I read it, but they generally think that is weird enough, so I just don't go there.

3) At the moment, my bed on Saturday morning when I can have a lie in!

4) Spiderman. Webswinging looks like a blast, and the superstrength and agility wouldn't hurt.

5) Definitely silver. (Not a werewolf. Or a vampire. Darn it.)
